How to Play Spelling Bee Battle
Spelling Bee Battle is simple to learn: you hear a word, you spell it before the clock runs out. Everything else is strategy. Here's the full rundown.
The core loop
Every turn, the word is read aloud. Listen carefully — you can replay it if you need to — then type the spelling and lock in your answer before the timer hits zero. Spell it right and you score and move on; miss it and you lose a heart or the turn passes to your opponent. Words get harder as the match goes on, climbing through seven difficulty tiers from Easy all the way to Legendary.
Controls
- Listen: the word plays automatically at the start of your turn. Use the replay button to hear it again.
- Type: spell the word in the input box. Capitalization and spacing don't matter — just get the letters right.
- Lock in: submit your answer before the shot clock expires. If you run out of time, it counts as a miss.
Game modes
Quick Match & Ranked
Jump into a one-on-one duel against another player. Quick Match is casual; Ranked puts your rating on the line and climbs a ladder from Phonetic all the way to Luminary as you win.
Create or Join a Room
Host a private match and share the room code (or link) with a friend, or enter a friend's code to join theirs. Great for settling who's the better speller.
Party Mode
Gather up to sixteen players for a last-speller-standing battle royale, or run a single-elimination tournament bracket. Miss your word and you're on thin ice; outlast everyone to win.
Solo Endless & Practice
Play on your own. Solo Endless is a survival run — three lives, escalating difficulty, one goal: beat your best. Practice lets you drill from any starting difficulty with no pressure.
Abilities
Before many matches you draft a small loadout of power-ups. Used well, they swing games:
- Skip — pass on a word you don't know (limited uses).
- Harder — force your opponent's next word to the hardest tier.
- Forgive — a miss gives you a second guess with a partial reveal.
- Shield — absorb one miss without losing a heart.
- Reset and more, depending on the mode.
Word packs
Beyond the standard dictionary, themed word packs — Countries, Animals, Spelling Bee Killers and more — swap in an exclusive set of words for Solo, Practice, and custom rooms. Ranked and Quick Match always use the standard list so competition stays fair.
Tips for winning
- Break long words into syllables and spell each chunk.
- Listen for common endings — -tion, -ous, -able — to narrow the spelling.
- Bank the easy words fast so you have time to think on the hard ones.
- Save defensive abilities for when you're behind or facing a brutal prompt.
